Desh Bhagat Yadghar Hall Duhra Village


Desh Bhagat Yadghar Hall in the Duhra village was built in memory of freedom fighters

in the 1970s and later upgraded. It was inaugurated by Babbar Bhagat Singh Bilga. It commemorates the sacrifices made by the members of the Ghadar Party and other revolutionaries for the freedom of India. This monument, Desh Bhagat Yadghar was created to educate, propagate and inspire the common people to uphold the revolutionary heritage of Ghadar Party and Babbar Akalis heroes. It inspires the people to fight for their democratic rights, social justice and reject the caste system. Our seniors forgot about caste, creed, religion, region and came to one platform to get independence. Now we should all unite to keep democracy alive, which was achieved at a very high cost.


The Ghadar movement was an international political movement founded by Indians to overthrow British rule in India. In the beginning, the movement was started by Punjabi Indians residing in America and later people from other states also joined the Ghadar Party. The first meeting was held on July 15, 1913, in Astoria, Oregon. The headquarter of Ghadar Party was at 5 Wood Street, San Francisco, California from where it started publishing a weekly Ghadar Paper. These are the names of a few Ghadari Babbae who started this movement: Sohan Singh Bhakna, (President), Keser Singh (Vice- President), Kartar Singh Sarabha (Editor), Baba Jawala Singh (Vice- President), Bhagwan Singh Gyanee, Bhai Parmanand, Vishnu Ganesh Pingle, Lala Hardyal, Barakatullah, Abdul Hafiz Mohamad, Tarak Nath Das, Rashbehari Bose, Balvant Singh, Pt. Kanshi Ram (Treasurer), Harnam Singh Tundilat, BD Verma, Lala Thaker Das, Nidhan Singh, Santokh Singh, Master Udham Singh, Baba Chattar Singh Ahluwalia, Mangu Ram, Karim Bakhsh, Amar Chand, Rehmat Ali, Sant Baba Wasakha Singh, Harnam Singh Saini, Ganda Singh, Baba Prithvi Singh Azad, and Gulab Kaur.


In 1914, some Ghadar Party members returned to Punjab to incite armed revolution for Indian independence. They smuggled arms into India and incited Indian troops to mutiny against the British. Ghadar Party also got the support of Germany and Ottoman Turkey. This Ghadar mutiny was unsuccessful, and 42 mutineers were executed following the Lahore Conspiracy Case Trial. The Ghadar Party continued its struggle till India achieved freedom. After independence, the Party was formally dissolved in 1948.
